Chittenden County, Vermont Inmate Search

Inmate search is a user-based tool that holds simple booking data that includes inmate name, mugshot, current custody status, descriptions of charges, and location of housing. It enables a person to check whether a particular person is in custody in a county or state correctional facility. Chittenden County, Vermont, has an online jail roster that is primarily administered by two agencies: the Chittenden County Sheriff’s Office and the Vermont Department of Corrections (VT DOC), which is in charge of the regional correctional facilities in the state.

Note: Vermont is the only state without traditional, standalone county jails. Rather, all those arrested and incarcerated anywhere in the state are handled in one of six regional correctional centers administered by the VT DOC. For federal issues, the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) maintains an inmate locator for prisoners detained in federal correctional institutions.

The VT DOC has provided an online inmate locator tool called the Offender Locator on its official site, where anyone can find an inmate located anywhere in the Vermont correctional system. A list of inmates detained locally is also available on the Sheriff’s Office site. The Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator can be used by those interested in the whereabouts of inmates in federal custody, and applies to all incarcerated individuals in federal prisons dating back to 1982.

How to Use the Chittenden County Jail Roster

The Chittenden County inmate search tool is easy to use, and all users have to do is go to the Chittenden County Sheriff’s Office website or the Vermont Department of Corrections Offender Locator. Next, find a section titled "Inmate Lookup," type the full name, date of birth, booking number, or DOC ID number. Inputting the full legal name, particularly the booking number, provides a more accurate result.

Once the search is keyed in, a list of matching records will be shown. The user is then able to select the inmate whose complete custody details they want to view. When no results are found, search with a different spelling or call the facility directly, since errors in data entry can be made sometimes.

The information about inmates can also be accessed by calling the Sheriff’s Office at (802) 863-4341 or Chittenden Regional Correctional at (802) 863-7356. Another way to get in touch with the visitors is by visiting during business hours:
